Ben Hubbard on Hizbullah: it is the season

And as I comment on this article remember that Hubbard is one of the few New York Times correspondent who is said to know Arabic: "But its intervention in Syria has signaled a series of firsts for the group, whose leaders insist that their primary mission remains “resistance” to Israel and the countries that support it, like the United States."  This last claim is absolutely untrue.  Hizbullah always insists that it never wishes to fight the US.  Nasrallah has said so repeatedly despite attempts by Israel and its supporters to open a war between the US and Hizbullah.  Hizbullah under Nasrallah never said that its resistance is directed against the US.   And then Hubbard says this clearing showing how ignorant he is of Hizbullah history:  "It is also the first time, its enemies note, that Hezbollah has dedicated so many resources to fighting other Arabs and Muslims instead of Israel."  First time? You must be kidding me. Are you that ignorant of the party's history? The most bloody chapter in the history of Hizbullah was its savage war against the Amal Movement which lasted four long years in Iqlim At-Tuffah and other regions of Lebanon.  Thousands of Lebanese died during those wars between the two Shi`ite sectarian organizations.  First time?  Then this: "Reflecting the organization’s new focus, its leader, Hassan Nasrallah, has spoken of Sunni extremists and Israel as threats of similar gravity."  Nasrallah never ever called them "Sunni extremists". This is simply made up by Hubbard. In fact, in every speech Nasrallah is at pains to stress that those takfiris pose a threat to Sunnis as they do to others. He never expressed those views in the blatant sectarian terms used daily by Syrian rebels and by Syrian exile opposition figures.  Hubbard should have ended his article with this disclaimer: everything I know about Hizbullah I learned form interviews with fictitious Hizbullah commanders conducted by Nicholas Blanford.

PS Not one person interviewed in this article is with Hizbullah.  Most are foes of the party, except the Israeli source cited perhaps?
