Who was right on Syria and who was wrong?

After three years of war in Syria, is there not room for a revison for self-criticism for people (analysts, journalists, and scholars) to come forward and to admit that they were wrong all along in their predictions about Syria.  Perhaps all the experts on Syria that I know were wrong on uderestimating the resilience of the regime and the lack of appeal of the armed groups among large swaths of the Syrian population.  Of the people I know, only comrades Talal and Amer were correct all along predicting that the fall of the regime is not as easy or quick as experts have been predicting. I know many good experts on Syria who two years ago were certain two years ago that the regime was about to fall, any day now.  As for the Western correspondents in Beirut who report on Syria, well, those really are propagators of propaganda on behalf of the Free Syrian Army and basically report what they see on Now Hariri website.  One notable exception on Syria in the last three years have been Patrick Cockburn of the Independent and I am certain that Tony Shadid would have provided a different kind of coverage had he survived.
