Ahmed Rashid
Whatever happened to Ahmed Rashid? The leftist who used to write for the Nation magazine years ago (when it was a leftist magazine)? Look at his piece today. He writes like those who write to please the White Man. He works hard to ingratiate himself with the White Man. Look at this language: "He was a wheeler-dealer in the classic Afghan mold." Yes, there are no wheeler-dealers in the US Congress, Ahmed. They only exist in faraway lands. Oh, yes. Even the White Man will find this hard to swallow. And then: "You got the feeling that many of these officers washed their hands after shaking Ahmed Wali’s, not fully appreciating that this was Afghanistan, not West Point or Sandhurst." Oh, yes. American and British military people never ever heard of corruption. They never ever thought that there could be people who are corrupt. Rashid fails to mention that Ahmad Karzai was more of a US occupation phenomenon than he was an Afghan phenomenom. Ahmed Rashid works so hard and writes with the aim of being accepted as one of them.
