Jeffrey Feltman and the Arabic language

This always cracks me up:
"Feltman speaks English, ArabicFrench, and Hungarian.".
And then you read:
"After a year of Arabic studies at the University of Jordan in Amman, Feltman served in the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv".  This one year of study enables Jeffrey to say "shukran" when he meets Arabs (but pronounce it as shooookreeenaaa).
