My local paper (the Modesto Bee) has an article by someone who does not know anything about foreign policy about the need to distinguish between Muslims and Sikhs. He basically wants people to make sure before they beat up a stranger that he is a Muslim and not an innocent Sikh. The writer also objected to the notion that the word Islam is related to peace--although he does not know Arabic, but since when is the lack of knowledge of Arabic stopped people in US from pontificating about Arabic and Arabs?
PS I have refused for over a decade to speak to anyone from the Modesto Bee and refuse to answer any questions by them for these kind of reasons.
