I have noticed this lately: that they never print representative images of Tehran in the US press. They never print a large overview pictures of Tehran that they would print about other capitals in the world. You would never know if you read the US press that there are high rises in Tehran for example. They always (since I came to US in 1983) print a picture of a narrow street with grey colors and a very old car and a small store, accompanying articles about how "the economy is in shambles". I have seen this since I came to US. How many times you saw a picture like this in the US press? They go out of their way to show non-modern look of the capital.
