Aron Lund is someone who writes knowledgeably about the Syrian "revolution" although I disagree with his political take and I can now maintain that he, like all other cheerleaders of the "revolution" have been quite wrong all along especially about the imminent fall of the regime. He tweeted this yesterday:

Abboud was a leading figure in #Syria's non-globalist salafi camp, a hardliner but still somewhat pragmatic; sought unity against IS & Assad". I asked him on Twitter how someone can be a Salafite Jihadi and a pragmatist at the same time. Is this not like saying that someone is a pacifist warrior? Also, Ahrar Ash-Sham were among the first to resort to car bombs in the Syrian "revolution" and as a knowledgeable expert wrote to me: "if not the first, among the first [to resort to car bombs], they also began executions and dhabh [beheading] - it was them who captured 8 palestinians from the Handarat camp who were members of the palestinian brigade and executed them - the regime was accused of killing them at the time. "
