`Abdul-Hamid As-Sarraj

This right-wing account about the life of As-Sarraj in Al-Akhbar (yes, Al-Akhbar houses people of various political persuasions, from the right to the left and in between--unfortunately, if you ask me) is the typical anti-Nasserist account.  I will not go into detail but I will say that the aura of Sarraj and his terror is an invention of the Saudi-British-US-Israeli propaganda apparatus of the 1950s and which was peddled in the right-wing publications (funded by that axis), namely Al-Hayat and An-Nahar.  Gen. Sisi kills in one day what As-Sarraj killed in his entire political career.  He was not corrupt and had no love of limelight and refused tons of money to tell his story in exile in Egypt.  The story about the rule of Sarraj in Damascus is a figment of the imagination of the enemies of Nasser.  The rule of Hafidh Al-Asad and his son Bashshar is 10000 times more repressive and cruel than the brief era of Sarraj.  At least Sarraj was ideological and was not ruling for the benefit of a family.  There has never been a more fraudulent propaganda service than that directed at the UAR and Nasser at the time.
