Western media cite the most bogus and unbelievable claims by the Syrian rebels no matter how far fetched

"State media said the rebels had been trying to attack a government position. But a rebel fighter, who identified himself only as Nouriddine, disputed that, saying the rebels were carrying food “but not weapons” to people besieged by government forces."  I mean, how can something as blatantly bogus as this get printed in the paper?  The only other group that is accorded this privilege--license to lie, no matter how big the lie is--is the terrorist state.  I can't think of another group: even the Nicaraguan contras' claims and lies were subjected to scrutiny in the US media.
