"Some rank-and-file rebels say that government artillery and warplanes attack them fiercely while largely leaving jihadist positions alone."  Wait. If those rank-and-file rebels were attacked by artillery and warplanes, "fiercely" as you described it, how did they manage to survive to tell that story that only you are ignorant enough to believe?
