Rick Gladstone and the token Arab stringer in the Times

There is much to talk about in this brief article about the clashes in Sidon yesterday.  But I don't have time alas.  I will pick, selectively, on one sentence or two:  "Sheik Ahmad al-Assir, who has called for holy war against Mr. Assad, against armed members of Hezbollah occupying buildings in the Abra district of Sidon, which Sheik Assir’s loyalists have historically controlled."  In fact, Mr. Asir and his ally former singer, Fad Shakir, called for holy war on Shi`ites and called for their eviction from Sidion.  It was not only against "Mr. Asad".  2) Armed members of Hizbullah are not in fact, occupying "buildings" in Sidon: not even Asir claims that. The issue for him are two apartments--not buildings--in `Abra above Sidon.  And what does "occupy" those apartments mean? They pay rent for those two apartments, so how is that "occupation" in a paper that still refuses to refer to the Israeli occupation of Arab lands.  So the two apartments are occupied by Lebanese supporters of Hizbullah but the Golan is NOT occupied? How do you choose the terminology there? 3) You say that the Abra district of Sidon, which Sheik Assir's loyalists have historically controlled".  How ignorant can you really be? Historically controlled when the Shaykh Asir only emerged two years ago only?  Historically? 4) What do you expect from two correspondents (not one) who in order to find how how many people died in Sidon they have to go to the website of the Daily Star?
