Notice how Western reporters only wax poetic when talking about Israel and Saudi-Qatari rebels in Syria

" including Syria's own rebels, now have the momentum and air of authenticity.". Can someone help me here? What does this sentence mean? What is the air of authenticity?  And this writer who cited Pew throughout ignored its finding about the unpopularity of Syrian rebels.
