Mahmud Darwish and US visa

One of the many Arabic TV serials during Ramadan deals with the life of Mahmud Darwish.  I like that the episodes of an otherwise lousy TV program dwell on the constant delays in granting him a US visa for hospitalization.  Arabs will see that this most admired of contemporary Arab poets had difficulty in obtaining a US visa for hospitalization.  Almost all the war criminals and torturers of the Israeli-trained Lebanese Forces militia (and others from South Lebanon Army) received political asylum in the US or benefited from witness protection programs.  Yet, this gifted poet had to wait for years to receive a visa to visit a hospital in the US.  If he was an Israeli killer of children, he would receive a Green Card on top of is 50-year visa.  Such are the immigration rules of the US.
