Damascus flag festival

Regarding the massive flag festival in Damascus yesterday in which people pledged allegiance to Syria and to Bashshar, several Syrians rightly founded repulsive that this celebratory spectacle would take place when the regime itself admits that scores of people (including its owns soldiers and security men) have been murdered.   In other words, what are they celebrating really?
