What is happening in the UAE? Expulsion of Shi`ites and Palestians continues

I have been receiving many letters about this situation and I am here posting one.  By the way, Nabih Birri did indeed visit UAE and met with the ruler and he then returned "very satisfied" and the issue died in the Lebanese press and I am told that the families of the expelled were pressured to keep quiet by the political forces of the Birri movement.  Here is the letter (I cite with permission but the sender wishes to remain anonymous):  "I decided to contact you as I am sure you are one of the very few courageous people who are willing to speak. As you already know, the UAE deported hundred of lebanese shiite families last year in a very oppressive and inhumane way. Many people thought that it was all over after Nabih Berri traveled to abudhabi and met with Khalifa bin Zayed. The truth is doctor, that NOTHING stopped. They are merely spreading out the deportations to make it seem like individual cases or to reduce the impact of deporting so many people at once. I personally know so many people who were deported recently. Although cases like before are still happening, but recently it has been mainly by not renewing the residence which is valid for 3 years. Many people who have been in this country for the past 30 years have their residency renewed periodically and the whole renewing process takes 3 or 4 days... a routine procedure. What the government here is doing, is waiting for the residency to expire, and blocking renewal... and giving the families 1 or 2 days to leave the country. Some families asked to stay for a few days to settle their matters here and enroll their children in schools in lebanon and were denied this. The reason? they blatantly tell them : BECAUSE YOU ARA SHIA, and the ORDERS from the TOP are to deport the shia after their residency is completed. Please spread the word doctor and mention it in your weekly article and on your blog. People who established huge businesses and have their life established in this country are being thrown in vacuum within days. Even the people still working here are being cornered in every aspect in their work and their businesses to force them to leave.   please keep me anonymous.."  Another one:  "Definitely post it on your blog doctor,i would love if you also mention it in your weekly articles in al-akhbar. None of the "shiite leaders" in lebanon are doing anything about this. The deported people tried to make their voices heard but everyone ignored them.

It happened recently to people we know. They weren't allowed to pack their stuff and they left the next day. They do it in a way to ensure that maximum damage is inflicted. When the man asked what was wrong and if he did anything, they told him you did nothing... the only reason is because you are shia and we have orders from the top to stop renewing residences for the shia .As for any new shia who try to work in the UAE,none are given access. Some come and work for a few weeks waiting for the residency but get rejected and leave. All companies know about that now and they ask the lebanese for their sect before accepting them. Renewing the residency for lebanese people in general is taking at least 2 months, it used to take 3 or 4 days before. They check the political affiliation before approving them... as for the shia they are rejected automatically. People cant even finish settling their businesses before they leave. I know for sure that saniora has sent them the list of all the shiites in the UAE. The lebanese government is probably the only government in the world that not only does nothing, but also supports and helps other governments destroying the lives of their own citizens while they suck up to the emiratis when they visit lebanon and provide them with all the prostitutes they want.   Deporting is still happening to palestinians and lebanese. They deported some iranians and pakistanis last year, but were threatened by iran and pakistan so it stopped. It was mentioned in a wikileaks document that the USA was even upset that the UAE government is immediately deporting people suspected of  "supporting terrorism" without conducting and investigation with them and questioning them. I hope things dont escalate to kidnappings and torturing as the US government is asking them to do.   I also know of lebanese shia with western passports(Canadian, American, French) who were also deported. Their governments did nothing and told them we cannot do anything. ie. you are not white."
