Nayif Hawatimah

Nayif Hawatimah wrote a long report on the status of the Arab Left. It has been serialized in the DFLP's mouthpiece, Al-Hurriyyah. Only two parts have been published thus far. I read them yesterday. How awful: full of jargon mixed with empty liberal slogans. Not a word about any Arab government or about the PA. Some parts read like vulgar Orientalist cliches. I may write something in response in Arabic. But you need to read it to know why the Arab Left has failed. I was reading it and thinking: what would Karl Marx think if he were to be told that this guy claims to be a Marxist? I think the Marx would throw a fit.
