There is nobody who writes Arabic with better skill and magnificence than Mahmud Darwish, in my opinion. But his political choices and statements is another matter altogether. Today, he visited Fu'ad Sanyurah, and accepted a luncheon in his honor at the headquarters of the prime minister. Do I need to remind you of the hagiographic poem Madih Adh-Dhill Al-`Ali (Praise of the Higher Shadow) about `Arafat (although Darwish often makes cute attempts to deny it was about `Arafat)? Do I need to remind you that Mahmud Darwish called Saddam Husayn Faris Al-`Urubah (Knight of Arabism) in the 1980s? Stick to poetry, Mahmud Darwish.
