I have been quite unfair in everything I have written about Khalilzad. In fact, I take what I had written back. I read this interview and found wisdom that has been eluding me in everything that I read about Iraq. Here, he offers the most specific and most sensible plan for Iraq: "There is no better option than working on a compact between Shia moderates, Sunni moderates and Kurds, bringing them together to cooperate against extremists of all sides." OK. It is now settled.
