Elie Wiesel on Israel

"“As a Jew I see my role as a . . . defender of Israel: I defend even her mistakes. Yes, I feel that as a Jew who resides outside Israel I must identify with whatever Israel does—even with her errors. That is the least Jews in the Dias- pora can do for Israel: either speak up in praise, or keep silent” (p. 87) (Cited in Mark Chmiel, Elie Wiesel and the Politics of Moral Leadership.)
