US spying and gaining an economic advantage

Obama obviously lied in his speech today when he claimed that the US does not use espionage to gain economic advantage.  It was published in the international press that the US spied on a conversation between Chirac and King Fahd to learn about an impending purchases of Airbus planes by the Saudi government for Saudi Airlines.  (Of course, the Saudi government was pressured to purchase Boeing planes instead, and it complied).
