I am watching it in Western academia

Just as the Socialist Party of France and the Labor Party in the UK morphed into a grotesque vessel of liberalism, I watch many leftist academics turn into liberal advocates.    Even many elements of the Arab left are drifting toward liberalism, but that is a different story altogether because it has to do with oil and gas sponsorship of ideological transformations.
