What the US really wants from Syria

From Ahmet in Tunisia:  Asad, I don't know if this came to your attention but file it under "it is not about the Syrian people"..Fred Hof, the former Obama Syria Czar, has just invented the most painful US foreign policy euphemism in recent memory ..He is straining to obfuscate in the most vacuous of jargon that what the US primarily wants from Syria now is what basically Colin Powell demanded from Assad back in May 2003 only this time that could be brought in a revolutionary/democratic transition narrative (with the latter can still go begging if the cherished cooperation is achieved a la Jordan, Morocco, Saudi, Egypt's Mubarak..etc..) : "What, in the end, do we want of Syria? A Syria fundamentally inclined to cooperate with the United States in the region and beyond: that is the objective..................Fundamental cooperation is not necessarily an alliance. It has nothing to do with patron and client. It has everything to do with shared values. It means a minimum of mutual suspicion and a basic agreement on the big things. It means mutual respect and a sense of equality. From the US perspective seven things would have to happen for this objective to be achieved"."
