"The book contained harsh findings that stained the image of the 1948
Israeli soldier. Morris described incidents of rape and slaughter that
occurred in the shadow of the War of Independence, including an incident
in Acre in which four soldiers raped a woman and then killed her and
her father. In another incident, a female captive in the village of Abu
Shusha, near Gezer, was raped repeatedly. Morris described, in chilling
detail, massacres that included the arbitrary killing of hundreds of
innocents − old men walking in a field; a woman in an abandoned village −
and orderly executions carried out against a wall or next to a well."
