"Even on YouTube, Saudis who live within the system don’t push too hard." I mean, what do you expect: the New York Times sent its US TV reviewers to write about Arab TV serials and Saudi culture, knowing nothing of the subject. She writes about Arab TV serials and mentions nothing on Syrian TV serials during Ramadan. Reading her, you would think that Saudi TV programs are more widely watched in the Arab world than Syrian TV serials. As for here statement above, it is patently false: there are brave Saudis posting the most daring stuff against the House of Saud and posting footage of victims of Saudi security forces all over Youtube. But then again, what does she know really.
