The cult of the Syrian opposition

There is such a cult for the Syrian National Council and the Free Syrian Army in the West that some academics if they venture to write a critical comment about them they feel that they are obligated to preface their remarks with (or along the lines of): I hate the Syrian regime.  I wish Bashshar would die.  I am willing to cut Bashshar into little pieces. Please understand: I am against the Syrian regime.  Let me make it clear: the Syrian regime is the worst dictatorship ever.  Please believe me: I so oppose the Syrian regime.  the Syrian regime is much worse than Hitler. Hitler was in fact merciful in comparison to Bashshar. And after the preface of this kind, the author would then write: Oh, and I am not sure that the Syrian exile opposition is good. It has made mistakes.  OK.
