A seasoned NGO person in the Arab East, sent me this (she/he does not want to be identified): "Asad I was at the camps today. I saw 15 year olds and less who fought for FSA. I
was so angry. They want to go back and fight and I tried to talk to them about
their future and education and the lebanon war and that they are kids (of course
I'm not supposed to say any of this) and they talked about el sharaf wil 'ard but then they showed me a video on the phone a guy from FSA trying to fire a
rocket and it explodes back and threw him on the ground and they laughed and
said: hayda baddou yharerna!! Don't ask me what happeed to left alignment. I
don't know. But I'm so upset because of all those stupid refugees and I don't
even pity them. I just look at the kids and know that the future is so bad. For some yes it is religious, or worse sectarian. They believe the alawites
killed many of them and of their families and its their duty to stand up for
those killed. For others, it's revenge. Many of those in...are from...they can't forget the tortured kids. Some were arrested and tortured and want
revenge. Like those teenagers I talked to I don't think they are religious or
care much abt the FSA but one told me he was arrested for taking part in a
demonstration after his release he took up arms. These people are not leftists for sure but not salafi either. They are from
families of poor farmers and construction workers. I'm not saying they are not
religious but no beards. They were in jeans, giggling and laughing but so angry."
