No one has noted this: for years, the US government and media have treated Sa`d Id-Din Ibrahim (who had supported Nasser until he was gone, and supported Sadat during his tenure and supported Mubarak before changing his mind) as the major Egyptian dissident and as the main "leader" of the Egyptian opposition. He was invited to meetings with Bush and was hailed as the democracy promoter in the region. I of course mocked this notion here for years. Yet, when Mubarak fell, it became clear; the man had no political role whatsoever and his political influence in Egypt is akin to my political influence in the US. No one even mentions hims except some articles in the Western press. Oh, by the way, I read that he is support Ahmad Shafiq.
