I find it rather pathetic. There are Western academics (some I even know) who have never ever expressed grief or sadness or outrage about Israeli killings of Palestinians who today, suddenly are pouring emotions and grief about the suffering of the Syrian people. It is only because such expression of emotions is consistent with US foreign policies and it is safe (career wise) to oppose a regime that is on bad relations with the US and Israel.
PS Those are people who never said a word about the Israeli war on Gaza, or even argued that there are actually two sides to the issue, etc.
