View of Syria

I wrote this summary on Facebook and Twitter yesterday.  My summary of my prognosis for Syria: a return to the past political conditions of Syria under Asad rule is impossible (the crimes of the regime prevent that); and the construction of a healthy secular democracy in Syria any time soon is impossible (the alliances and machinations of the Syrian National Council prevent that).  So Syria seems destined for a long duration of civil wars that are certain to spill over to Lebanon.  And this will ensure regional and international connections.  The Lebanese civil war may resume in Syria--if it has not already.
