A Syrian comrade sent me this: "The practice of disclaiming responsibility for murderous acts is not a new
one, or one that Reyadh Al-Shaqfeh invented. It is a very old practice of
the Muslim Brothers. The fires they set in Cairo, and before they began
to receive their a monthly allowance from the British colonial authorities,
were the first instance of this diabolical scheme. To this day, the Muslim
Brothers do not even admit to any of that in their annoying historical
narrative. The big one was, however, when they murdered the Prime
Minister of Egypt, Al-Nuqrashi Pasha, in 1948. The story is very complex,
but the assassin was a Muslim Brothers youth, who dressed himself up as a policeman (similar to the 'Free Syrian Army' familiar uniforms?). Hassan Al-Banna issued a statement within 24 hours denying the Muslim Brothers responsibility. Hassan Al-Banna, who is surely a deity by the Muslim
Brothers and certainly not just a 'saint', wrote the most reactionary
political and social thoughts in his invention of his Islam. I say invention
because there is no evidence of such an attack on freedom, personal and political in any previous reinvention of Islam. From the Omayyads to Mohammad Ali. The pressure on personal and political freedom was a growth of the Ottoman political (not Islamic) authority. But this is another complex question. Certainly the Muslim Brothers represented at their birth a very right-wing reactionary movement fighting Nationalist modernization trends while the colonial authorities fought it out with the Nationalists and the King. One example of this man's new Islam is
his disagreement with Mohammad
Abduh who taught that women need to be educated - and at that, Abduh did not even go anywhere to insure total equality in education. Al-Banna opined that even "reading and writing" is not necessary, "what could they do with such an ability?" he questioned in one of his famous tracts, read and read again, by the looks of it by the Muslim Brothers, judging by the number of downloads. In his Islam women were 'created' to "cater for the desires of the man and to procreate" producing more people to "praise god."
Incidentally, none of the explosions they set in the late 1970s and early 1980s, nor the murders of a couple of hundred of Syria's best academics and doctors (was that addressing an Israeli request?) was
claimed by them, and they often issued statements denying their act. Many would consider their tactic to be dishonest. This is not how it is viewed by them. The statement by the Prophet that "War is deceit" إن
الحرب خدعة whether he said that or not, is taken to heart. All what one has to do is to presume that in any encounter one is at 'war,' and one can then lie all the way to heavens!

PS. Al-Shaqfeh was the Military Commander of the Muslim Brothers,
leading later the Hama insurrection.""
