resignation of Waddah Khanfar

The director-general of Aljazeera, Waddah Khanfar, has resigned.  He has shaped the direction of the network since 2003 although I know for a fact that the Emir of Qatar has a hands-on role in directing the network.  As for the resignation: it came only days after Al-Akhbar in Lebanon (and other newspapers and news sites in the region) published translations of Wikileaks in which Khanfar was admitting to US officials that he was toning down criticisms of US in Aljazeera media outlets.  I don't predict a shift in the network's coverage.  I met Khanfar only once a year ago: he is very smart and dynamic but is associated with the Islamists trend and is accused (especially by female anchors) of bringing in very conservative influences and officials.
