Noah Feldman: nightclubs mean democracy

I have said it many times: Feldman should receive a blender not only for bigoted statements against Arabs that he has made over the years (especially when he questioned the ability of Arabs to act rationally), but also for the dumbest observations on the Middle East.  Here, he goes along with the New York Times that the presence of bars and belly dancing is a sign of democracy.

PS Matthew sent me this about the confusion among NYT experts regarding the difference between niqab and hijab:  "This article has been revised to reflect the following correction:
Correction: April 17, 2011  An earlier version of this article misstated the name of the full-face veil that Moqtada al-Sadr, the anti-American cleric in Iraq, said women should neither be forced to wear nor be banned from wearing. It is the niqab, not the hijab."
