US-engineered coup

I mean, it won't be the first time that the US engineers a military coup in the Arab world.  After all, the CIA had installed Col. Husni Az-Za`im in Syria in 1949.  Husni Az-Za`im, for potato's sake.  Can't the US get better puppets?  I mean, security guards at public buildings are better qualified militarily than Egyptian Defense Minister, Tantawi.
