Arab nationalism is not dead--far from it

There is an important layer in what is happening in the Arab world.  In the late 1970s, Fouad Ajami wrote a silly piece in Foreign Affairs in which he proclaimed the death of Arab nationalism.  Zionists loved that piece and have been reiterating the message ever since (but if it is dead, why do you find the need to read the obituary regularly?).  But it is clear if you read Arabic and follow Arabic debates on the internet (on facebook and twitter in particular) that Arabs are rallying to the same causes and stressing the solidarity among Arabs.  I just saw a message by a Saudi citizen on Twitter: his profile picture is the Tunisian flag and he wrote to express solidarity with the Egyptian people.  And this in countries that consistently repress expressions on the internet.  Oh, how false the premise of Zionist analysis on the Middle East.  Oh, one more thing: do you know that history books on the Middle East a century from now would mention the footnote that is Israel in this way: the state that was Israel (1948-2015--or whatever year in which the demise of Israel was completed).
