Orwellian elections in Tunisia
The Tunisian dictator, Zayn Al-`Abidin bin `Ali, is the closest that we have to the Saddam dictatorship and his personality cult. I watch him give a speech yesterday, and he sounded Orwellian: he said that he will firmly bring down the might of the law on anybody who "raises doubts" on the honesty and integrity of the elections. Kid you not. He must be furious with the publication of the explosive French book, La Regente De Carthage (which has been banned in Tunisia). You may download it for free on the internet. For legal reasons, I can't link to. But google the title and you shall get it. But the book seems to focus on the power of the First Lady: I am sensitive to those accounts who wish to pin more blame on the wife than on the husband.
