Robrt Worth on LBC's Basmat Watan
First notice the headline of this article. The article then mentions in passing that Khalil supports `Awn who is aligned with Hizbullah. Worth does not report that Khalil has been praising Hasan Nasrallah for the last three years. Personally, I hate this show and I can't watch a minute of it. It is not that it does not make me laugh or smile but it makes me cringe. Always. Also, please Mr. Worth: when you advance further in your study of Arabic you will learn that satire is not a Lebanese thing or a "Levantine" thing but extends far beyond. I mean, the Egyptians are better in satire than all those Lebanese shows put together, as are the Syrians. You are hanging around Jummayzah too much, it seems, and are being affected by Lebanonese bugs. The humor on this show is sophomoric and unsophisticated very much like...Saturday Night Live. But here is my favorite part of this article: "It is mostly light pastiche, nowhere near as sophisticated or hard-hitting as “Saturday Night Live” or “The Daily Show,” as Charbel Khalil and his partner readily concede." Notice that the native always has to measure up to the White Man--in every thing. Secondly, to refer to Saturday Night Live as "sophisticated" is like referring to George W. Bush's speeches as "philosphical."
