The Lal mosque in Islamabad was quite close to my hotel (but I didn't want my mother to know). (But it was much closer to the Holiday Inn). I was awakened every day by the sounds of bombing. But the mosque was even close to Holiday Inn. Let us face it: Al-Jazeera bureau chief in Islamabad is an unabashed propagandist for Al-Qa`idah and Taliban. His coverage of the Lal mosque is quite revealing about his biases: you feel he is about to join the ranks of the taliban.
