Jimmy Carter and his Lousy Book on Palestine. Have people (who praise Jimmy Carter) actually read his book? I am reviewing it for an academic journal, and it is ridiculous--in errors and presentation. This is what he said about the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 1982: "In response to terrorists attacks across Lebanon's border, Israeli troops move into Lebanon...." (p. 7). As is well-known, PLO and Lebanese troops had observed a cease-fire, while Israel used as a pretext the assassination attempt in London (then again, Carter may think London is across the border from Israel) on its ambassador by Abu Nidal's men. He also justifies Israel's war in 1967 ("preemptive attacks" he calls it) by referring to "Arab forces making menacing moves."(p. 5) But I have to be fair. There are some informative parts in the book: I learned for example that it is insulting in the Arab culture to throw a shoe at somebody's face.
