Joseph Samahah is right: the domestication and marginalization of the labor movement in Lebanon was done by the Syrian mukhabarat and on behalf of Rafiq Hariri, to allow for his economic policies to pass. I add that Hizbullah stood by, while the SSNP was more than glad to keep a tight lid on labor unions.
