Nobody understands Walid Jumblat better than Joseph Samahah. Here, he deconstructs one sentence from Jumblat's press conference yesterday. What makes it even more effective is the knowledge that Jumblat cares so much about Samahah's opinion. You see: Walid Jumblat thinks of himself as sectarian warlord/medieval landlord/intellectual. He believes that he deserves the last title because he subscribes to the New York Review of Books, and yesterday he bragged that he had lunch with a "big journalist" from the New Yorker (Seymour Hersh). I mean, I once had breakfast with Ahmad Fatfat but you don't see me brag about it.
