Oppressive and Dumb. The Syrian regime is not only oppressive, but is very dumb too. Not to mention that it is a regime that raises slogans that it knows it knows it has no intention of following through. Yesterday, the Syrian regime arrested one of the most moderate Syrian opposition personalities, Michel Kilu. Kilu is a former communist leader, who became one of those Arab "liberals." I am no fan of Kilu, but that is another matter. But the Syrian regime seems quite intent on arresting Arab nationalists, communists, conservatives, moderates, extremists, religious people, secularists, liberals, and the rest. Nobody is spared from the iron arm of the regime. What is the plan? How many will be arrested and for how long? Will they have enough jails for their prisoners? Is this part of Bashshar's Spring? And please spare me the talk about Bashshar's "scientific" and "technological" bent.
