Don't do this in our lands; don't do this in any land. I was standing outside of my hotel this morning in Doha, Qatar waiting for a taxicab. This Canadian businessman was also waiting for a cab. The cabs were late, although we both ordered them ahead of time. Those two Egyptian concierge staff members were standing with thus trying to make the situation better. The Canadian businessman then suddenly snapped to one of the Egyptian workers, as he was talking: "Stop talking now. Don's say any word. You are not making sense. I dont want to hear you talk. This is the Four Seasons Hotel and you should have cars ready 24 hours a day." The Egyptian worker was visibly offended and fell silent instantly. He looked so hurt. I was standing right there, of course, and was not amused. I told him that he will not talk to the workers that way, and that I will not allow him to abuse them. I told him that if he is really annoyed, he can complain or even yell to the people who make policy, the managers. I suggested that he yell at Alwalid bin Talal, part owner of the hotel chain. But since we both were in a hurry, we wound up sharing a cab (and the hotel paid for it I must add). During the cab drive, I explained to him my policy. I believe that one should be, if need be, to people who are "high" on the hiearchy of power, wealth and prestige, but not people who are "low" in that silly hiearchy.
