The two "Lebanon"s. The picture on top is from a demonstration by some Lebanese against the visit by US Assistant Secretary of State for Near East to Lebanon. Security forces were quite rough and violent in dealing with that demonstration. Ironically--permitting ironies in a place like Lebanon--the right-wing/Hariri media supported the Security Forces, who were portrayed as victims of the demonstrators. In Lebanon, people don't support the right of demonstration in principle: they judge on the basis of the slogans and demands of demonstrators. In the second picture above, people loyal to the Lebanese Forces decided to burn tires and block roads in Karantina quarter to protest the demonstration on top. I kid you not. Security Forces (in alliance with the Lebanese Forces) showed up and exchanged greetings with them, and politely asked them to disband.
