I was rather impressed. Last November, during a talk I gave at Southern Illinois University, I mentioned an incident that happened when an audience member tossed an American flag bracelet in my lap. Today, I received a written letter from that person. It was very kind. It said:
"Dear As`ad AbuKhalil
I would like to apologize for the incident that happened here on November 10. I came to your presentation interested in what the other side had to say about the war. We do not see eye to eye in some of the subjects you spoke about that day. Instead of me acting like an adult and professional about it I acted very rudely. In no way did I mean any of that to be an act of hostility. The way I presented myself was unquestionably wrong. I again would like to apologize for the disrespect and please do not think negatively on the student body of SIUE on my behalf."
B."
(Thanks. I do not think negatively of the students at Southern Illinois University or of you. Best.)
