Vatican as an ally of the Syrian regime

How come supporters of the Syrian "revolution" never mention that the Vatican has been quite supportive of the repressive Syrian regime? Today an envoy from the Vatican met with Bashshar and delivered a message of support and solidarity.  How come that doesn't raise the ire of Western cheerleaders of the Syrian "revolutions"?
