An Arab fighting in the US army in WWI

Misha'il Nu`aymah's literary masterpiece, Sab`un (and when you think that Najib Mahfouz was the one Arab who won the Nobel Prize for normalization with Israel) has not been translated into English. It is too massive. But the second volume contains a great insightful remarks about an Arab serving in the American Army in WWI.  He said that part of the experience made him to briefly state: "my mind and heart are gradually pushing me toward radical leftism".  (volume 2, p. 133).
