"Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is behind a “demonic” attempt to portray Ambedkar, the author of India’s constitution and a revered icon for the country’s 300 million ’untouchable’ Dalits, as a Hindu hero, she said. Her comments were made as both the BJP and the Congress Party laid claim to Ambedkar even though he regarded Hinduism as inhuman and the Congress leader Mahatma Gandhi as a charlatan who pretended to support Dalits while strongly defending India’s brutal caste system."
