I woke up today thinking: that we need to redesign our discourse in reference to the politicization of religions movements across religions. We should not (whether in Arabic or English although in French they use "intégrisme") refer to the rise of religio-political movement as "awakening" but as a coma. The Islamist coma from which we have not yet awakened is largely due to the Sadatist era married to the Saudi Wahhabiyyah (don't underestimate the destructive role of the first tele-Islamist, Muhammad Muwalli Sha`rawi) and the Islamist currents in the Iranian revolution. That plus the American sponsorship of the reactionary Islamic movements in the world during the Cold War.
