This is the first time I hear of this: anti-Semitism in hiring at US universities

"His only interview for a teaching position “was interrupted by one professor screaming at me, ‘How could you ever possibly represent the narrative of the Palestinian people?’ To which I responded that obviously, I didn’t think I was supposed to represent it, merely teach about it…. I think the problem was my last name.” "  So let me get this straight: so American universities don't hire Jewish professors?  And they discriminate against professors if they think that they have "Jewish names"?  So was he implying that US universities prefer to hire professors with Arab or Muslim sounding names?  I am rather confused here.
