This is a message from the president of AUB, freaking out over the revelations in Al-Akhbar about the mafila-like dealings and coverups at the American University of Beirut.
"Dear Members of our AUB community,
You will have read the article in Al Akhbar Friday morning that not only accuses the senior administration and the Board of Trustees with abdicating their fiduciary and financial responsibilities, but provides links to well over one hundred privileged and confidential documents that purportedly support their allegations.
The range of posted documents includes privileged University reports. The links provided are selective and give a prejudicial view of the integrity and self-critical nature of the deliberations of the Board and administration in the investigation that was initiated three years ago. Moreover, this breach constitutes a massive violation of the privacy standards of our University, and we are taking immediate steps to address our IT security systems and to conduct an internal investigation to identify the source of the breach.
Articles such as this one--only the latest in a series by this newspaper--are a blatant attempt to shed doubt on the values and commitment of a University that has led higher education in the region for almost a century and a half.
